First ever African Mediation Conference

One of the greatest achievements of ICMC was the 2020 African Mediation Conference, which held on the 1st of December, 2020. The Conference, which was themed “Transnational Commercial Mediation: Leveraging Options and Intersections in Africa”, was born out of the need for a synergy among ADR institutions across the Africa, and to interrogate the issues, growth and developments surrounding commercial Mediation in Africa.

The Institute assembled a lineup of highly-experienced ADR practitioners across the globe to contribute to the discourse on the themes and sub-themes; Cultural Dilemmas in Transnational Mediation, The Singapore Convention on enforcement of settlement agreements that arise through mediation, and the African Business Environment: Prospects and Ideals.

The Keynote Speaker was Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN, CON, Promoter and Director, International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation, Abuja (ICAMA), and the President of the African Arbitrators Association. Others speakers during the Conference were:

Moderating the Conference were Dr. Chukwuemeka B. Eze; Executive Director, West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and Chinyere Onyemenam; Member, Training Committee, ICMC.

ICMC truly established herself as a credible and notable ADR institution in Africa, and created a synergy among ADR institutions in Africa by partnering with numerous ADR organizations across the continent such as;
